LGBT related Radio and TV Programmes, 19th - 25th December

We seek them out so you don't have to. This is our weekly non-exhaustive round up of upcoming LGBT programmes on the radio and television. Inclusion of a programme is not a recommendation.

Owt on’t’telly?

A round up of LGBT progs and personalities on British TV.
Christmas is a time when lesbigays and trans folks tend to be left out in the cold by the terrestrials. This year is no exception. There’s a sequel to The Naked Civil Servant, but that comes up next week.

TV
New
Take That do a special of their Circus tour at 6.30pm ITV1 Saturday (repeated Sunday 2.20pm), followed by Ian McKellen among the Stars on the Street (Corrie) at 8.
Sunday’s Corrie Omnibus on ITV1 at 10.10am includes two episodes written by Jonathan Harvey in the last hour.
Best of Graham Norton on BBC1 at 10.35pm BBC1 Monday. Victoria Wood with All the Trimmings at 10pm BBC2. It’s LGBT interest is that Derek Jacobi has a part, but, well, it’s Victoria Wood isn’t it? Come Dine with Me Christmas on C4 at 8pm Monday and Tuesday.
Also on C4 Tuesday: Alan Carr Chatty Man Christmas Special at 10.20pm; his Celebrity Ding Dong Special from last year is repeated on E4 at 11.30pm. Alan Bennett on Bennett on BBC4 at 7.50pm. Sandi (Toksvig’s) Christmas Cracker on Sky Arts1 at 8pm (includes the London Gay Men's Chorus and many other surprise guests).
Come Dine with Me from Northampton Omnibus on C4 1.35pm Wednesday. QI XL on BBC2 at 11.10. Ballet Boyz interpret The Rite of Spring on BBC3 at 10pm. Old Celebrity Come Dine with Me with David Gest at 9 on More4. George Michael on Bio at 9.
The Tsarina’s Slippers by Tchaichovsky at 2.15pm BBC2 Thursday, or Christmas Eve if you prefer. Derek Jacobi in The Old Curiosity Shop on ITV1 at 3.15 (if you like gambling run a sweepstake on how many versions of A Christmas Carol there are over Christmas. It runs into double figures). Victoria Wood’s Midlife Christmas at 9pm BBC1 and QI at 10. Celebrity Come Dine with Me Christmas Special concludes at 10 on C4, followed by Alan Carr Chatty Man Christmas Special at 11.05 (yes, it was shown on Tuesday as well). Celebrity Shock List on Five (what’s the point in Five?) features George Michael and Stephen Gately.
Dr Who on Friday (Christmas Day) BBC1 at 6pm; the two parter that sees the end of David Tennant. QI is repeated on BBC2 at midnight. Five dedicates its evening to programmes about ABBA. Oh, that’s the point of Five! Alan Carr Chatty Man Christmas Special repeated at 9pm on E4.

Wythenshaw 97.2 FM, a community radio station, airs a lesbian and gay radio magazine programme once weekly, according to Out North West Magazine published by the Lesbian and Gay Foundation in Manchester. Podcast http://www.tuesdaynightout.co.uk/

GayRadio-UK is a new online radio station in Blackpool and promises a variety of LGBT programming. The audio stream is at www.gayradiouk.com. Guests iunclude lesbian actress Amanda Barrie, gay icon Su Pollard and radical actor Richie Tomlinson. Daily programmes are uploaded at the most popular gay podcast site on the net, Feast of Fun www.feastoffools.net, with a speech based programme of LGBT guests, news digest and light-hearted discussion.
