LGBT History Month today announced four new academic patrons: Sheila Rowbotham, Viv Gardner, Melanie Tebbutt and Martin Hall. All four are highly respected professors in their fields.
Prof Rowbotham is a sociologist and international writer on women’s history. Viv Gardner is Professor of Theatre Studies, with a special interest in women in British theatre. Prof Tebbutt is the Director of the Manchester Centre for Regional History, with a special interest in working class histories. Prof Hall is an historical archaeologist and Vice Chancellor of Salford University.
Co-chair Sue Sanders said: “We’re honoured to have such eminent professors give us their support.
"In previous years, our calendar has shown amazing community support for celebrating our history. The involvement of academics will extend our influence into the highest levels.”
They join existing patrons Angela Eagle, Minister of State for Pensions and Ageing Society, Cyril Nri, actor, director and writer, Sir Ian McKellen, actor, and Labi Siffre, poet, songwriter and singer.
